But that was for HP’s supply chain which was not as lean and efficient as Dell’s. All through the years, we used to hail Dell for its unique business model, and now it seems to be abandoning it?

I have my doubts that Dell would do that. I think Dell would be going ocean way only for some components, may be being procured in bulk from nations like China, and somehow it would pass the increased inventory cost to the supplier, rather than absorbing on its own. Without safeguarding itself, I see this strategy to go doom if it is implemented at a fast pace and in all over the globe…

Your observations in this post were very nice and elaborative… All students of Ops should read your blog…Rahulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06605779610631940824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4153293235682111113.post-52908475660374211062010-05-01T13:55:22.587+05:302010-05-01T13:55:22.587+05:30I agree with you on this. One doubt would be that is the cost advantage so high that it will compensate for the increased lead time for shipments, final products delivery; & which will further lead to customer dissat if planning & delivery goes for a toss !!! Need to take a deepaer look into how the world's best supply chain adapts itself to its new style & sails the market tide ....Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07379597541306217263noreply@blogger.com
